portion of the artwork for JR Walsh's poetry

Birth control
JR Walsh

Stacked up against all the following
reasonable prohibitions & concerns
in the form of water crises, population
displacement, wars on human dignity,
violence, both calculated & random,
intolerance, either religious or lactose,
full-on climate revenge is taken for granted,
& while the crumbling streets fill with blood,
& while that kid shoves a full slice of pizza
into his brother’s crusty ear & snot drips out
both their noses while their dear mother texts
encouraging replies to somebody’s dick pix,
I love you wins out so I tossed the condoms.
No. No one at Goodwill will want them.
