Ivy Grimes’ Comments
These poems are from a series about the last days of humanity and the animals who hide from the human apocalypse and tell each other fables about the world theyve lost. The main storyteller is the lynx, a beast with the legendary ability to turn its drops of urine into brilliant red gemstones. Myths and fables about animals are rarely comfortinglike cat memes and videos of singing dogsbut instead are violent and dark. Like us, animals are often carnivorous and territorial, are red in tooth and claw. The animals in these poems remember the pettiness and violence of life on earth, but they tend to praise life anyway.
