Tiff Holland’s Comments

“Reflex” is part of a series of autobiographical pieces I’ve been working on. It is one of the hardest pieces I’ve ever written. “Clockwise” is a meditation on what it felt like to know that we were going to be leaving Hawaii. “Rhubarb” was an easier piece to write. The setting is true. We had a grape arbor in our back yard. Mostly, I liked to use it to play fire pole. Otherwise, the piece is fiction. After I finished it, someone told me that rhubarb is actually poisonous. If we had actually put it in my brother’s mouth he would have died!!
