Monic Ductan’s Comments

“Dreaming in Louisiana” was first published in the spring 2012 edition of Crab Creek Review. I got the idea to write it from an in-class writing exercise at UGA. My teacher was Heidi Staples, a poet who really got me excited about poetry and encouraged me to keep writing.

“In Appreciation of Men’s Hands” came from a writing prompt in one of my graduate classes last year, and I tried to turn it into a poem, but so far it hasn’t panned out as one.

“Green Pepper Story” was born from an experience I had in a grocery store during which an elderly lady hit me with a bundle of bananas and scolded me about not bagging my apples. The rest of the story is fiction, of course. I never stole groceries, and lately I’m too lazy to ride a bike.
