portion of the artwork for Justin Hyde's poetry

’tis the season
Justin Hyde

so much

to be thankful for.

so much

to lose.

eat the sugar cookie

spike the eggnog
if you’re prone to that interlude.

stoke the fire

stoke it
a little harder.

don't tamp down your heart
and hedge your bets
like your father.

your son walks by.

playfully
grab his leg.

wrestle him to the ground
and bite his neck.

i love you.

i love you.

i love you.

be damned

the giant roulette wheel

in the sky.
