Gary Sloboda’s Comments

These are experimental prose poems, a form I’ve been working with for the last couple of years. �The intent with these pieces was to create a series of poems addressing bigger, abstract topics—virtue, disorder, betrayal—by utilizing a kind of collage technique that follows a loose lyrical thread which hits home by the end of the poem. �They are called “songs” to highlight or play with that tension between the sometimes disjunctive collage, on the one hand, and the lyrical/evocative sense, on the other. �Aside from that technical description, the inspiration for these poems is everyday life.
