These five poems appearing in FRiGG are part of my mammoth poetic undertaking—spanning years—Tales of Brave Ulysses, a six-part series of poems. Each part is chapbook length with a focus on literature, cinema, art, and music. Part 1, an introduction to the series, Religions of the Blood, was published by Pudding House Press. “Masterplot” is included in part 2, Inside a Broken Clock—poems focused on literature—which will be published by Finishing Line Press in December 2010. Three of the poems, reflecting my eclectic taste in film—“Michael Powell’s Women,” “Dinner with Wong Kar-Wai,” and “Which side are you on …”—are included in part 3, A Glass That Falls, poems focused on the cinema. This manuscript was finished summer 2010. Finally, “The Artist Alone,” with its origin in the haunting photography of Francesca Woodman, is included in part 4, “World within the World“—a work-in-progress—poems focused on art.
