As a “poet and a player” there are only two
universal truths of which I’m reasonably certain.

A)

Writing an original line of verse at 5 in the morning by moonlight on the sun porch shivering in a ratty thrift-store housecoat, with a migraine and loose bowels to boot, is very much equivalent to “playing the hand you are dealt”—which in turn, at every turn, comes down to fooling yourself.
