Katy Whittingham’s Comments

“Cape Codder” was written partially based on the story of the murder/drowning of a young woman by her boyfriend not too far away from where I live. I constantly watch true crime television programs, and her story was covered. I had recently lost my father, and I used my own grief to imagine being that woman’s sister and what that might feel like. I have two other published poems based on the same story.

“Emily” is about overhearing a friend spreading a rumor about an event that happened a long time before and feeling very deceived by her.
