P.L. Mosher’s Comments
These five stories explore protagonists who are in over
their heads. Each character is, in some ways, incredibly naïve. At the
very least, they are fooling themselves. For that reason, the pieces were fun
to write. I submitted the stories to a writing workshop, and after reading the
story “This Time,” the instructor said that I was channeling Charles
Bukowski. That wasn’t done consciously, although I had been reading
Bukowski’s poetry. The things I read always impact my work. It’s
true that these characters seem headed for disaster. Maybe something will come
along to redeem them. I wanted to leave that open for the reader.
