portion of the artwork for Ray Corvi's poetry

[My Belief in You]
Ray Corvi

My belief in you
is a mask I can’t

take off

The skin beneath
the face I wear

turns raw
with mortal music

and the war
we wage

against the mind
it was in dream

Unemployed—

Question why
(for scowl or for farce)

It utters crystal clear
a mortal magic

The REAL work

I am very          ill
at ease
