Furry Boys
Elizabeth Glixman

We are furry boys.
We grew from low brow fur
picked bugs off coats and huddled in the dirt
There was no descent from the staircase from the sky
and no command
Let there be light
Let there be creatures crawling from the sea
And let one stand on two feet and growl
and moan
I don’t know it was written and then it was said
The light is red and orange today
Floating in the sea of the dead
and brazen yellow in bombs
No peace loving ape would
Furry boys.
We are furry boys.
