Live Forever and Worry
Mark Lipowicz

About the ocean overflowing your shore,
the beach house you are saving for.
About your bald spot, the ozone hole!
You can escape to the mountain top
but think—of glaciers that will come again,
lava from volcanoes reactivated.
So be a cockroach, live in dark, eat dust,
breathe under water, live,
survive an asteroid impact.
Live a hundred million years fearing
only the sharp hooves of the apocalypse
and be relieved, perhaps, when it finally comes.
